International Webinar: Transforming Islamic Education in the Digital and Global Era

Yogyakarta – STAI Masjid Syuhada Yogyakarta successfully organized an International Webinar entitled “Transforming Islamic Education in the Digital and Global Era: Integrating Values, Technology and Global Competencies” on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB. Conducted virtually, the event reflected a cross-national academic collaboration aimed at strengthening the role of Islamic education in the face of digitalization and globalization.

The webinar featured distinguished speakers from various institutions, including Permana Octofrezi, S.Pd.I., M.Pd from STAI Masjid Syuhada Yogyakarta, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Khairul Aiman bin Wan Mokhtar from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA), Malaysia, and a representative from IAI Al Hikmah Lampung. Their contributions provided comprehensive insights into the transformation of Islamic education within a global context. In his presentation, Permana Octofrezi emphasized the importance of integrating technology into Islamic Education (PAI) while preserving core spiritual and moral values. He highlighted that Islamic education must remain adaptive to modern developments without losing its foundational principles.

Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Khairul Aiman bin Wan Mokhtar addressed the importance of global competencies in Islamic education. He underlined the need to equip students with 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, cross-cultural communication, and adaptability in an increasingly dynamic global environment.

The representative from IAI Al Hikmah Lampung enriched the discussion by elaborating on the implementation of Islamic values in digital-based learning and the challenges faced by educational institutions in balancing technology integration with character development.

The webinar attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, including academics, students, and education practitioners. The high level of engagement was evident in the interactive discussion and Q&A sessions. Through this event, it is expected that stronger collaboration among Islamic educational institutions—both nationally and internationally—can be fostered to address the challenges of the digital era. This webinar also serves as a strategic initiative to promote innovative, relevant, inclusive, and globally competitive Islamic education.
